Guide to Washington Dulles International
Airport (IAD)
Washington DC’s major international airport
was named after John Foster Dulles, secretary of state under President
Eisenhower. Dulles airport lies 42 km west of Washington DC and
since September 11, the airport operates under multiple security
layers. Passengers are advised to arrive early.
Terminals
and check-in
The airport has one terminal, with four concourses, A-D, which are
reached by shuttle buses after checking-in and passing through security.
Airport
facilities
Bars, restaurants and cafés are available in abundance throughout
all the concourses. Eateries include McDonald’s, Vie de France,
Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Cinnabon and others. There are also Ben &
Jerry’s Ice Cream in concourses B, C and D.
There is no post office at Dulles
airport, however there are post boxes situated inside the terminal.
Due to security reasons, there are
no left luggage lockers. However, there are luggage trolleys (not
free of charge) and porters available to help with luggage.
Business
and meetings
Business service centres are found at the eastern end (tel: + 1
703 572 2963) and western end (tel: +1 703 572 2969) of the main
terminal's upper level. They provide bureaux de change, insurance,
fax, photocopying, notary and other services. Business centres are
also in concourses B, C and D.
Shopping
and money
There are shops distributed across all concourses, with a wide selection
including a shoeshine, newsagents, duty-free shops, gift shop, sweet
shop, music shop, leather goods store, sunglasses outlet and jeweler.
ATMs and bureax de change are available
both in the terminal and the various concourses.
Disability
assistance
Airline representatives can arrange wheelchairs and assistance,
if you refer to the relevant counter. Those with hearing difficulties
can benefit from TDD phones, located in the main terminals and all
concourses, and maintain awareness of announcements via the visual
paging system provided in concourse B and in the main terminal.
Specially adapted toilets are also provided and lifts have Braille
signage. You will find parking spaces for disabled passengers in
all the airport car parks. These spaces are conveniently located
either close to the terminal or nearby the shuttle bus shelter.
Shuttle buses are fitted with wheelchair lifts.
Information
Hotel telephone centres are positioned on the lower level of the
main terminal in the ground transportation centres.
An international visitors' information
counter is located on the lower level of the baggage reclaim area
(tel: +1 703 572 2536). Travelers' aid services (tel: + 1 703 572
8296) are available at the information counter, which is also located
on the baggage reclaim level. Travelers' aid ambassadors can be
found in concourses B, C and D.

Airport transportation
By taxi
Taxis providing a 24-hour service between the airport and city centre
are located on the lower concourse and are operated by Washington
Flyer Taxicabs. A taxi to the city centre will cost about US$45.
By car
By car from downtown Washington DC, drive west along I-66 until
you reach exit 67, then follow airport signs that guide you the
16 miles to the distant airport. Make sure to use the airport road,
which carries no toll.
By bus
Washington Flyer Express Bus serves the Reagan National Airport
and West Falls Church metro station. Metrorail services can be reached
by boarding this bus and alighting at West Falls metro station.
Greyhound also provides connections between the airport and several
locations in Virginia.
Parking
Both hourly and daily parking is located within walking distance
of the main terminal. There are also long-term car parks that provide
a free shuttle service to the terminals. Economy car parks providing
a similar shuttle service are also available. Valet parking is located
