Guide to Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT)

This efficient airport is one of Japan’s
most used airports. It is a central hub for flights in and out of
Japan and also provides many domestic flights to all parts of Japan’s
provinces.
Narita, sometimes known as ‘The New Tokyo International Airport’,
has excellent facilities.
Terminals
and check-In
There are two terminals, the first is predominantly for European
carriers while the second concentrates on the large number of regional
and domestic airlines. Travel between terminals is quite a distance
but shuttle buses run on a frequent basis.
Airport
facilities
There are a large number of shops including some interesting electrical
goods stores and there are no shortage of restaurants. Terminal
1 has restaurants on most floors while Terminal 2 has food outlets
on floors 2 and 4.
Business
and meetings
There is a fully equipped business centre in Terminal 2 providing
all secretarial services and with meeting rooms for hire and there
is also a smaller range of services in Terminal 1. There is an airport
club lounge for those flying business class.
Shopping
and money
There is a good choice of duty free products. ATMs and exchange
currency services are available throughout the airport.
Disability
assistance
The visually impaired are aided with tactile flooring, and the rest
of the airport provides good facilities for the disabled, including
wheelchair accessible telephones and toilets.

There are friendly multi-lingual staff at a number of information
desks throughout both terminals.

Tokyo Narita Airport transportation
By taxi
Downtown Tokyo is quite a distance (40 miles) and fares can prove
extremely expensive.
By car
To drive from the airport take the Higashi-Kanto Expressway. This
gives access to an number of cities apart from Tokyo.
By train
A regular and efficient service runs every half hour into central
Tokyo. It is probably the most economical way into the city. A journey
takes over an hour. A quicker service is the Skyliner Express train
taking about 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased in the airport
arrivals halls.
By bus
The airport provides a first class bus service into the city every
15 minutes.
Parking
Good parking facilities are available at the airport for both the
short and long term. Disabled badge holders can get a discount and
credit cards are accepted for payment.
