Guide to San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

This airports is a central hub for flights to
most parts of the world. Located 15 miles out of San Francisco,
it serves the city, Silicon Valley and the wider Bay Area. There
are three large terminals and a new International Terminal.
Terminals
and check-In
Terminal 1 serves Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest,
TWA, Air Canada and Alitalia. Terminal 2 is currently closed for
renovation (2003). Terminal 3 serves American Airlines, United Airlines
and Canadian Airlines. The International Terminal provides flights
to destinations in Asia and Europe. All terminals are connected
by a shuttle service.

facilities
There are a number of food and beverage outlets in all the terminals.
There is ample shopping opportunity much of which is located in
Terminal 3, with an unusual aviation memorabilia store. There is
a pharmacy located in the International Terminal and medical centre
in Terminal 2. There are also mail- boxes and post office services
provided.
Business
and meetings
There are excellent business facilities here providing up-to date
computer access with business based software, internet access and
video conferencing, with staff are on hand for support. All secretarial
services are also provided for, and there are a number of meeting
rooms available. The business centre is found in the International
Terminal.
Shopping
and money
There are four large duty-free shops in the International Terminal:
two in boarding area A and G. There is a duty-free kiosk in Terminal
1, boarding area B and another at Terminal 3, boarding area E. There
is a domestic bank located in the airport and there are ATMs in
all terminals. Bureaux de change are also well provided for in each
terminal (open 06:30 to 22:30).
Disability
assistance
Facilities and provision for the mobility impaired meet international
aviation standards. Staff are helpful and well trained in helping
passengers with specific needs. Wheelchair access is good. TDD phones
are located throughout the airport. There are plenty disabled car
parking spaces (tel: +1 650 877 0227) for more information.

on level 2 (Departures) of Terminal 1 and level 2 (Departures) of
Terminal 3, as well as on levels 2 (Arrivals) and 3 (Departures)
of the International Terminal.

Transportation to and from San Francisco International Airport
By taxi
These are located outside of each terminal. Shared ride vans are
also available, located on the upper level for instant pick-ups,
or on the lower level for pre-arranged fares.
By car
From the city join Highway 101 South and follow the signs for the
airport. If approaching from south of San Fransisco take the Highway
101 North.
By train
Rail services are not great. There is no train station in the airport
complex. Nearby Millbrae has a weekday service into the city operating
every hour. The last train is at midnight. At weekends a service
exists but is not regular (or efficient).
By bus
A service is operated by BART into all parts of the San Fransisco
area. Look on the information boards in the terminal buildings for
times and destinations.
Parking
Short term and valet parking are near the Terminal buildings. Long
term parking is further away in McDonnell Road. A shuttle bus service
exists from here running to the airport.
