Guide to Munich International Airport
(MUC)
The second largest airport in Germany and eighth
largest in Europe is Munich International Airport. The airport is
located 28 km from the city center and is well-serviced by public
transportation.
Terminals
and Check-in
The airport has one terminal, with a second terminal scheduled to
open shortly.
Airport
facilities
The airport provides an excellent range of eateries, from high-class
restaurants — such as Trattoria Monaco, Charles Lindbergh
Restaurant and IL Mondo — to fast-food restaurants. Cafes
and snackbars include Café Treffpunkt, the Coca Cola Bar,
Segafredo Bar and Frutti-Bar. Beers and wines are available at Erdinger
Weißbier Bar and the König Pilsener Bar.
Medicom Multimedia Kiosks providing
Internet access, credit card phones, fax and photocopying services
are located throughout the terminal. There are also charge points
for mobile telephone and notebook computers at the photography centre
in the main concourse. There is a 24-hour Internet station located
beside the Café Treffpunkt in the airport's central area.
Computer games, desktop office programmes, TV stations and radio
are also available. It is also possible to copy and transfer files,
download documents and even scan photos and have them printed or
emailed.
There is a 24-hour medical emergency
centre, as well as a pharmacy.
Business
and meetings
The business service centre, Munichcon, has well-appointed conference
facilities situated in the southern office building (tel: +49 (0)89
9759 3200). The Munich Airport Centre also provides comprehensive
presentation and meeting facilities (tel: +49 (0) 89 9753 4300).
Shopping
and money
Duty-free shops are found in the departures hall only. However,
there are more than 70 regular shops offering everything from electronics,
fashion and accessories to trendy gift articles and daily needs.
There are numerous banks and bureaux
de change throughout the airport.
Disability
assistance
Disabled passengers are advised to contact their airline or refer
to the airport assistance service in area E of level 3. TDD phones
for passengers with hearing difficulties are provided in the central
information area. There are wheelchair-accessible toilets in the
central area and various other locations around the airport. Wheelchair-accessible
telephones are found in the central area and near the post office
in area 3. Designated parking spaces are available in all car parks.
Information
A central information desk with multilingual staff is located on
level 3 of the central area. A tourist information desk is also
provided

transportation
By taxi
Taxis are located outside the terminal and trips to the city centre
take about 45 minutes.
By car
The airport is located just off Autobahn A92 between Munich and
Deggendorf and may be reached from four motorway exits. You can
connect to the A92 from the A99 Munich ring road from both southern
and eastern destinations. Otherwise, follow the smaller Route 388
from Munich towards Erding and branch off north for the airport
just before reaching Erding.
By rail
Commuter trains S1 and S8 both leave every 20 minutes and serve
several Munich stations, including the Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof,
with connections to other major German cities and destinations in
Austria, Switzerland and Italy. The S1 runs from 05:36 to 00:16
daily, while the S8 operates daily between 04:06 and 01:06. Journey
times to the Hauptbahnhof are around 40 minutes.
By bus
Transfer buses are available for several regional destinations.
The Autobus Oberbayern service to the Hauptbahnhof leaves daily
every 20 minutes between 07:55 and 20:55. The journey time is approximately
45 minutes. During large exhibitions, the München Messe exhibition
centre is connected by another bus. The service runs every 30 minutes
between 08:00 and 18:00 with journeys lasting 45 minutes. It is
free if you possess an exhibition ticket.
Parking
Short-term parking facilities are in the underground car parks P1,
P2, P3, P4 and P9. Multi-storey car parks P6, P7 and P8 provide
long-term parking, as does the airport hotel underground car park,
P26. All have parking spaces dedicated to the airport and offer
direct access to the airport. Car park P41 at Nordallee has weekly
rates and is connected by a free shuttle bus every 20 minutes.
