The airport at Mexico City is one of the busiest airports in Central America and is only 13 km east of the historical city centre.

Terminals and check-in
There is just one large terminal with eight lounges, providing ticketing and check-in facilities. International and domestic baggage claim areas are located on the ground floor, with International and Domestic Departures and Arrivals on the second floor.

Airport facilities
A wide selection of restaurants is found throughout the various lounges including fast food courts and 24-hour restaurants. Traditional Mexican dishes are available as well as western food. There are also speciality ice cream outlets, cafeterias and bars in the lounges.

Further facilities include: medical facilities located on the upper level of Lounge C, with office 15 providing 24-hour vaccination services. Prescription medicines are available at the pharmacies in Lounge C and F. A post office is located in Lounge A. Storage lockers are located in Lounge A and Lounge E, $US5 for 24 hours per bag.

Business and meetings
Internet access is provided in Lounge E's Axon Cyber Cafe. Mobile phone rentals are also available at the airport.

Mexico City International Airport transportation

By taxi
Passengers are advised to only use official taxis, as new-arrivals are prey to those posing as taxi-drivers. Do not enter an unmarked or independent cab, and stay clear of Volkswagen ‘bug’ cabs.

Official taxis are located outside the baggage claim area, at the end of Lounges A and E. They are positioned beside the arrival gates in booths marked ‘Taxi/Transportacion Terrestre’. Staff wear bright-yellow jackets emblazoned with ‘Taxi Autorizado’. The cabs themselves are yellow with a white taxi light on the roof, and an airport symbol painted on the doors. Tickets can be bought at the taxi counters inside the terminal, and you should advise staff of your destination. The journey to downtown Mexico City takes 35 minutes.

By car
To reach the airport by car from Mexico City (downtown), take Paseo de la Reforma East, then turn right to Av Rio Consulado East, then turn right to Circuito Interior Highway East.

By rail
A metro station is located near the baggage claim, but is only recommended if travelling lightly. The Terminal Area station is marked by an M symbol, and is located on Metro Line 5. Trains run every 10 minutes, until 01:00.

By bus
Buses to various destinations are available and depart from outside the Domestic Terminal near lounge D. Pullman de Morelos connects Cuernavaca frequently, between 06:30-23:00. Other destinations include Pachuca, Queretaro, San Miguel de Allende, Leon and several others. Some hotels provide a shuttle service to the city; enquire when booking your hotel.

Parking
Both short and long-term parking is available near all airport lounges and a multi-level carpark has recently been constructed, providing an additional 2,500 spaces.
