Guide to London Luton International Airport

Luton is one of the many regional airports in
the UK and is ranked the 7th largest. It services both domestic
and European destinations, including many of the budget airlines,
but not long haul flights.
Terminals
and check-in
A new terminal was opened in autumn 1999 with 60 check-in desks,
‘state of the art’ baggage handling and passenger information
systems. The existing terminal was upgraded recently, creating a
larger departures lounge and adding a food court and shops.
Airport
facilities
There is a food court offering a range of refreshments and meals.
An unusual facility is a ‘chapel’,
open to all denominations and religions. The airport also has well
equipped baby care rooms.
Business
and meetings
The Aviance Executive Lounge is extremely luxurious and well equipped.
Use of the lounge and its many facilities costs £18 per two-hour
stay.
Shopping
and money
Several well-known retail outlets are found in the terminal, including
Ann Summers, the Body Shop, Books etc. and Boots.
Money can be exchanged at one of four
bureaux de change outlets available throughout the terminal building.
Disability
assistance
The airport meets EU standards for provision for physically disabled
persons, with ramps, accessible toilets, TDD phones, porter and
wheel chair assistance, and specially designated parking.
Information
An Information Desk can be found in the terminal, otherwise please
contact your airline for further assistance.

London Luton Airport transportation
By taxi
The approximate cost of a taxi to the centre of London (Charing
Cross train station) is £70. To avoid the inevitable queues
for taxis, book your taxi in advance through Black Cab London (Tel.
0800 169 5296 from the UK or Tel. 1-877-405-7622 from the USA).
For local destinations, taxis are more practical and affordable.
Several personal transfer (limo) services are also available.
By car
Luton Airport is located two miles from junction 10 of the M1 motorway
which runs straight into North London. The route is clearly signposted
and journey time is approximately 60-75 minutes.
By rail
The Luton Flyer service is the fastest way to get to London and
requires only a short shuttle ride to Luton station. Trains run
every half hour to London Kings Cross Thameslink station, with occasional
departures through the night. Direct trains also run as far as Brighton.
Total journey time to London central is usually 60 minutes. From
Luton station you can also catch local trains north and to smaller
stations to the south.
By bus
The Luton and District 757 Greenline coach departs hourly (and more
frequently at peak times) to London, and various local destinations.
Journey times can be up to 90 minutes, with less frequent services
over weekends (Tel. +44 870 608 2608).
Parking
There are several parking options available, including short and
long stay, but space is limited and expensive. Drop offs are free.
