Guide to London Gatwick International Airport (LGW)
London’s second largest airport handles
a lot overseas and in particular trans-Atlantic flights. It has
a lot less traffic than Heathrow but is still a popular point of
entry for the UK. It is about an hour’s drive out of central
London but is served well by rail links in and out of the city.
Terminals
and check-In
There is a North and a South terminal that are linked together by
monorail. There are different arrivals halls for domestic and international
flight and baggage claim can sometimes be slow if arriving from
overseas.
Airport
facilities
There are the standard array of fast food outlets and drinking bars.
There is a medical centre opposite the South Terminal and there
is also a post office located in the main terminal building.
Business
and meetings
A full range of business services are available at nearby hotels
Gatwick Hilton and Le Meridien. There is also a priority check-in
service for all business class travellers.
Shopping
and money
Extensive duty free shopping is also available featuring everything
from cheap British souvenirs to local specialities, alcohol, cigarettes,
perfume, electronic consumer goods, convenience items and designer
goods.Both terminals have numerous places to exchange currency and
withdraw funds.

Gatwick International Airport Transportation
By taxi
Taxi’s and limousines are available outside the terminal.
They can be quite expensive if you intend travelling all the way
to central London. Chauffeur-driven cars are available on request
(tel: +44 1293 568 468).
By car
From the M25 ring road head for the M23 motorway turning off at
junction 9, then take the A23 London to Brighton road.
By train
The Gatwick Express runs to and from Gatwick departing from Victoria
station. The service leaves every 15 minutes (starting at the top
of the hour) and takes only half an hour. Tickets are available
on board, but the service does not run after 22:00. There are also
regular suburban services and the Thameslink service also makes
the airport accessible from London Bridge and Blackfriars stations,
as well as several stops north of London.
By coach
Coaches by Speedlink to Heathrow airport, Flightline to London Victoria
and National Express to destinations nationwide depart from the
ground floor of the South Terminal.
Parking
Each terminal has a short-term carpark within walking distance of
the terminal. Long-term parking is further away.
