Guide to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
The relatively new Hong Kong International Airport
is situated 40 kilometres from the city. Referred to as Chek Lap
Kok, it is a major transit point for destinations throughout China
and the rest of South East Asia.
Terminals
and check-In
The airport has only one terminal and is considered to be the largest
enclosed space in the world. However, it is well supported by an
internal shuttle running east to west making the terminal easy to
negotiate.
Airport
facilities
The airport is well served with 150 refreshment outlets many of
which are open any time of day or night. The non-restricted Level
8 mezzanine has a view of the departure lounge. In this area are
many of the airport’s quality dining options. There are also
an adequate number of gift shops, newsagents, several speciality
shops, as well as a post office.
Business
and meetings
The PCCW HKT Business Centre is open from 07:00 to 23:00 daily.
Mobile phone rental, internet connection and fax and photocopying
services are all available. The Plaza Premium Lounge on the Departure
Level 2261-2622 offers further facilities.
Shopping
and money
There are no shortage of ATMs with six banks represented. The airport
has three bureaux de change which are situated at level 7 at check-in,
level 6 at departures and level 5 at baggage claim. Hong Kong SkyMart
is the airports duty free area offering a wide range of tax free
shopping.
Disability
assistance
Lifts and telephones come complete with Braille symbols and the
airport provides suitable access for wheelchairs. Designated parking
areas are available in car parks 1,2,3 and 4.
Information
Hong Kong tourist board has helpdesks on level 5 in the arrivals
hall and also in the transit area. Information is provided daily
from 07:00 to 23:00 and a 24-hour internet information link is also
available. Information counters under the airport authority can
be found on levels 5 and 7.

Hong Kong Airport Transportation
By taxi
Taxi ranks are located beside the Ground Transportation Centre opposite
the bus station. Different coloured taxis serve different destinations.
Light personal hand baggage (no greater than 140cm in total dimensions)
can be carried free of charge inside the compartment.
By car
To reach the airport by car follow the signs for the Western Harbour
Tunnel. After the tunnel, continue along the West Kowloon Expressway.
Airport signs will guide you across the Tsing Ma Bridge to the airport
island. Continue on North Lantau Highway until the airport is reached.
By rail
It takes 23 minutes on the ‘Airport Express’ to get
to downtown Hong Kong. This is a fast and convenient way to travel
with trains running at 10 minute intervals from 06:30 through to
01:30. The embarkation point is the Ground Transportation Centre.
By bus
The Ground Transportation Centre offers bus routes to various destinations
throughout the city. Buses are regular and there is also a night
time service.
There are also ferry services that operate between Chek Lap Kok
and Tuen Mun, an area north of the airport. The service runs from
06:00 to 23:00. Buses run from the airport terminal to the ferry
pier.
Parking
Hong Kong International Airport offers four car parks, all of which
are close to the Passenger Terminal.
