Guide to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
Transportation to and from the airport

The relatively new Hong Kong International Airport is situated 40 kilometres from the city. Referred to as Chek Lap Kok, it is a major transit point for destinations throughout China and the rest of South East Asia.

Terminals and check-In
The airport has only one terminal and is considered to be the largest enclosed space in the world. However, it is well supported by an internal shuttle running east to west making the terminal easy to negotiate.

Airport facilities
The airport is well served with 150 refreshment outlets many of which are open any time of day or night. The non-restricted Level 8 mezzanine has a view of the departure lounge. In this area are many of the airport’s quality dining options. There are also an adequate number of gift shops, newsagents, several speciality shops, as well as a post office.

Business and meetings
The PCCW HKT Business Centre is open from 07:00 to 23:00 daily. Mobile phone rental, internet connection and fax and photocopying services are all available. The Plaza Premium Lounge on the Departure Level 2261-2622 offers further facilities.

Shopping and money
There are no shortage of ATMs with six banks represented. The airport has three bureaux de change which are situated at level 7 at check-in, level 6 at departures and level 5 at baggage claim. Hong Kong SkyMart is the airports duty free area offering a wide range of tax free shopping.

Disability assistance
Lifts and telephones come complete with Braille symbols and the airport provides suitable access for wheelchairs. Designated parking areas are available in car parks 1,2,3 and 4.

Information
Hong Kong tourist board has helpdesks on level 5 in the arrivals hall and also in the transit area. Information is provided daily from 07:00 to 23:00 and a 24-hour internet information link is also available. Information counters under the airport authority can be found on levels 5 and 7.

Hong Kong Airport Transportation

By taxi
Taxi ranks are located beside the Ground Transportation Centre opposite the bus station. Different coloured taxis serve different destinations. Light personal hand baggage (no greater than 140cm in total dimensions) can be carried free of charge inside the compartment.

By car
To reach the airport by car follow the signs for the Western Harbour Tunnel. After the tunnel, continue along the West Kowloon Expressway. Airport signs will guide you across the Tsing Ma Bridge to the airport island. Continue on North Lantau Highway until the airport is reached.

By rail
It takes 23 minutes on the ‘Airport Express’ to get to downtown Hong Kong. This is a fast and convenient way to travel with trains running at 10 minute intervals from 06:30 through to 01:30. The embarkation point is the Ground Transportation Centre.

By bus
The Ground Transportation Centre offers bus routes to various destinations throughout the city. Buses are regular and there is also a night time service.
There are also ferry services that operate between Chek Lap Kok and Tuen Mun, an area north of the airport. The service runs from 06:00 to 23:00. Buses run from the airport terminal to the ferry pier.

Parking
Hong Kong International Airport offers four car parks, all of which are close to the Passenger Terminal.
