Guide to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL)

The major gateway into India is Indira Gandhi
International Airport. This airport is located 23 kms south of Delhi
and is a vital domestic as well as international link for India.
Terminals
and check-in
There are two terminals at the airport with the International Terminal
5 km from the Domestic Terminal, at Palam. An air-conditioned courtesy
coach connects the terminals hourly during the day and every half
hour during the night. Further assistance is available from staff
at counter no. 7 outside the Customs Hall in the International Terminal
and a free coach is also provided by Indian Airlines for travellers
with domestic or international flight connections.
Airport
facilities
Refreshments and meals are available at several snack bars and restaurants
in both the arrivals and departures areas.
There is a post office located in
each terminal, and postboxes are positioned across the terminals.
Further facilities include a pharmacy in the International Terminal
in the Departures area, and 24-hour medical units in both terminals.
Business
and meetings
There is a Business Centre located in Terminal IA (Indian Airlines
and Alliance Airlines Departures). Facilities include secretarial
services, catering, photocopying and telephones. For credit card
holders with cards issued by approved banks, the business centre
may be used for free.
Shopping
and money
There are several shops offering handicrafts, garments, electronic
goods and alcohol as well as duty-free shops. Note that payment
is only accepted in foreign currency.
Banks and bureau de change facilities
are open 24 hours a day in the International Terminal and between
06:00-20:00 at the Domestic Terminal.
Disability
assistance
Ambulift facilities for disabled travellers are available, as are
specially designed toilets. There is also a special parking area
provided for disabled travellers.
Information
The Domestic Arrivals Hall has three information counters, while
the International Arrivals Hall has one counter. These counters
are located in the baggage reclaim areas.

Indira Gandhi International Airport transportation
By taxi
There is a Delhi Traffic Police taxi booth in the arrivals areas
which provides pre-paid vouchers for travel to the city. Retain
the receipt until you arrive at your destination and then give it
to the driver. Although metered taxis are also available outside
the airport, the pre-booked option is less hassle. Autorickshaws
are also available.
By bus
Buses connect the airport to central Delhi every 25 minutes, 24-hours
a day. Journeys last 50 minutes.
Delhi Transport Corporation operates
green and yellow coaches and EATS runs white and blue coaches 24-hours
a day. Both bus lines leave from outside the International Terminal
and travel via the Domestic Terminal.
Parking
Car-parking is available at both terminals.
