Guide to Christchurch International Airport
(CHC)
New Zealand is made up of two islands, the North
and South Island. Christchurch Airport is the international link
for the South Island of New Zealand and is located 12 km from downtown
Christchurch.
Terminals
and check-in
Christchurch has two terminals, domestic and international. Both
terminals are connected internally and the domestic transfer check-in
counters are located in the international arrivals hall. The international
terminal is open for all flight arrivals and departures, while the
domestic terminal is open from 07:30 to 20:00.
Airport
facilities
Meals and refreshments are provided by numerous bars and restaurants
located in both terminals. The Gallery Café and Cityside
Café are two pleasant cafés.
Business
and meetings
Fax, photocopying and postal facilities are provided by the travel
and information centres. The International Antarctic Visitors Centre
and the Grand Chancellor Sudima Hotel (tel: +64 (0)3 358 3139) both
offer conference and business facilities.
Shopping
and money
The International Atrium provides duty-free shopping and other shops,
including gallery boutiques located in the departures hall. A smaller
variety of shops is available in the domestic terminal.
ATMs are widely available inside both
terminals.
Disability
assistance
Facilities for travellers with special needs include lifts, wheelchair
access and automatic doors. Accessible toilets and showers are provided
for those with mobility difficulties. Braille keys on ATMs aid those
with vision problems. Special parking spaces are located at the
front of the public car park.
Information
Information centres are located in both the domestic terminal and
international arrivals hall. As well as offering information and
bookings for local accommodation and tours, it also provides full
travel agency services and can arrange any further international
or domestic travel and holiday plans.

Airport transportation
By taxi
Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall and trips to the city
centre take about 20 minutes.
By car
To reach the city centre from the airport, drive along Memorial
Avenue onto Fendalton Avenue. Take a left turn onto Harper Avenue
and onto Bealey Avenue until you reach Columbo Street. At Columbo
Street make a right turn and follow the road to Cathedral Square,
which is the centre of Christchurch.
By bus
A public bus operates from the airport every 30 minutes. It takes
30 to 40 minutes to reach downtown Christchurch. Shuttle buses,
which can be shared, go to the various hotels in the city. Buses
leave from outside the domestic and the international areas of the
terminal buildings.
Parking
There is short- and long-term car parking at the airport, directly
in front of the terminal building.
