Guide to Auckland International Airport
(AKL)
The main gateway to New Zealand is Auckland airport.
The airport is located 21 km south of downtown Auckland. The airport
services over 300 domestic flights and 80 international connections
every day.
Terminals
and check-in
There are three terminals: two domestic and one international. All
are connected by a courtesy shuttle bus that operates every 20 minutes
between 5:45 and 22:30. However, it is also possible to walk between
terminals.
It is important to note that flight
announcements are seldom made over the public address system and
passengers are advised to refer to screens for flight information.
Airport
facilities
There are many restaurants, cafés and bars in the airport.
Cafe Down Under, the Kiwi Café, City of Sails Cafe &
Bar and a McDonald's to name a few.
An airport medical centre is located
immediately outside the International terminal. There is also a
health club, children's playroom, golf course with driving range
and mini-golf.
Business
and meetings
There are two conference rooms on the top floor of the international
terminal and another three rooms in the Air New Zealand domestic
terminal (Tel: (0)9 256 8915). These facilities are ideal for both
small and large meetings.
Shopping
and money
There are over 80 shops dispersed across the three terminals, offering
everything from boutiques, souvenirs and duty free shops to daily
necessities.
Banks with bureaux de change are located
across from departures and arrivals in the international terminal,
with ATMs on the terminal’s ground and first floors.
Disability
assistance
People with mobility difficulties are catered for with automatic
doors, lifts and wheelchair assistance in the international terminal.
There are also specially-designed toilets and showers. Those with
vision problems are facilitated by ATMs fitted with Braille keys.
Disabled parking spaces, located across from the terminals and in
the airport car parks, are available for card holders.

transportation
By taxi
Taxis are available outside the various terminals and downtown Auckland
is about 45 minutes away and costs roughly $40NZ.
By car
To reach the airport by car, follow the southern motorway as far
as the Gilles Avenue exit and then follow the airport signs.
By bus
A shuttle bus service provided by Airbus runs between the airport
and downtown. Regular buses depart every 20 minutes by day and every
30 minutes during the evening, until 22:00. An airport-to-Pakuranga
service is also available.
Parking
Car parks are positioned in front of all three terminals, with a
long-term car park provided 150 m from the international terminal.
