Transportation to and from the airport


The new Athens airport is located 27 km northeast of the city centre. It handles direct international flights, as well as flights to the provincial airports on many Greek islands.

Terminals and check-in
The airport has one main terminal and a mid-field concourse with boarding gates. Passengers check-in at the main terminal and can reach the mid-field concourse via a connecting walkway.

Airport facilities
The main terminal provides ample choice of refreshments, with a generous selection of restaurants. The mid-field concourse also has a snack bar.

There are four first aid rooms in the departures and arrivals Halls, with baby changing rooms provided in both the main terminal and mid-field Concourse.

A lost property office is situated in the main terminal's arrivals hall (tel: (0) 10 353 0000).

Business and meetings
The IT&T Business Centre is located in the main terminal. The offices are fitted with PC workstations, Internet access, telephones with data ports, fax machines, both laser and colour printers, scanning equipment, copy and binding services.

One conference room, suitable for up to six, is located on the second floor of the main terminal and provides video conferencing facilities.

Shopping and money
There are a range of shops in the main terminal, including Metropolis, Accessorize, Reebok, Boss, Cartoon Store and The Body Shop. There are also duty-free shops, newsagents, gift shops, boutiques and bookstores. A convenience store can be found in the mid-field concourse.

ATMs are available in both the arrivals and departures halls of the main terminal. There are also two bureaux de change and two banks in the arrivals hall.

Disability assistance
Facilities for the motion-impaired are good, with specially fitted toilets ramps. The walkways have been adapted for those with vision problems and braille signage. Dedicated check-in desks are also available, while specifically adapted electric cars can be used to travel between terminals.

Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport transportation

By car
By car from Syntagma Square in downtown Athens, follow Vas Sifias Avenue, then Mesigion Avenue and Marathonos Avenue to arrive at the airport.

By rail
By the start of the 2004 Olympic Games, there will be a railway service between the Athens metro and the principal railway station at the airport.

By bus
Right now the most economical approach is to use the bus routes that connect the airport with Athens. The E94 to Ethniki Amyna metro station leaves the airport every 15 to 20 minutes during metro operation hours.

To reach the airport from downtown, catch the E95 on Mesogion Avenue and Attiki Odos. This runs every 15 minutes from 05:00 to 23:59 and every 30 minutes from 00:00 to 04:59. E96 leaves Piraeus every 20 minutes 05:00 to 23:59 and every 40 minutes 00:00 to 04:59, travelling to the airport via Varis-Coropi Avenue. Finally, passengers may take metro line 3 from the city centre to Ethniki Amina station, and then board bus line E95 to the airport.

Parking
There are 4,500 parking spaces at the airport. P1 and P2, the short-term car parks are situated just outside arrivals. The long-term car park P3 is linked by courtesy shuttle bus to the main terminal. The bus runs every 10 minutes and takes about five minutes. There is also a pedestrian bridge that connects to the terminal. The P3 shuttle bus departure point is directly outside the main terminal's arrivals hall. Outside of peak times, the bus must be contacted through one of the courtesy phones.
