Guide to Amsterdam Schipol International Airport (AMS)
This efficient ultra modern airport is a major
European connection to a variety of locations throughout the world.
It specialises in Trans-Atlantic crossings but also sees a lot of
traffic from overseas arriving into the city as it is a major tourist
hotspot itself. Located southwest of Amsterdam, it is one of the
world’s busiest airports. The major Dutch carrier KLM is based
here.
Airport
facilities
Schipol Plaza is situated before customs and is open to the general
public (06:00 to 22:00) daily. There are a number of restaurants
and bars here, as well as a terminal hotel offering shower and changing
facilities to weary in-transit travellers. Post boxes are located
around the terminal and there is a post office in the central lounge.
There is also a 24-hour medical center and also a pharmacy.
Business
and meetings
There are offices available for business travellers complete with
fax, computing, secretarial services and telephone rental. High
tech conferencing is available and catering is provided on request.
Opening times are 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday.
Executive lounges of some of the major carriers also offer business
facilities and fax machines.
Shopping
and money
There is an ATM in the west lounge and the bureau de change is open
from 03:00 to 23:30.
A wide selection of duty-free shopping is also available and a 24-hour
grocery/market is also on hand.
Disability
assistance
The airport is well equipped for the physically disabled. There
are no mobility threshholds at the airport and all floors are accessible
by lift. All sliding doors also open and close automatically.
Information
There are helpdesks situated in Schiphol Plaza, in arrivals hall
2 and 3 and behind passport control in lounges 2 and 3.

Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport Transportation
By taxi
It takes 15 minutes into Amsterdam. Mercedes Benz taxi’s are
available outside the arrivals hall providing a first class service
to all parts of Amsterdam.
By car
To get to the airport take the A10 ring road until it connects to
the A4. Follow signs for the E19 which leads to the airport.
By rail
The airport’s train station is within the terminal's central
plaza and links directly to Amsterdam Centraal Station. It takes
20 minutes into the city centre. Trains run regularly and are available
around the clock.
By bus
Buses run from the terminal to Amsterdam center, departing every
15 minutes. There is also an airport shuttle that has stop offs
at a number of top hotels.
Parking
There are various car parking options including short-term parking,
long-term parking, exclusive and valet parking. Car Parks P1 and
P2 facilitate short-term parking for a maximum of 48 hours. Car
park P3 offers long-term parking and includes a complimentary shuttle
bus to and from the airport terminal building, taking around 10
minutes. The exclusive parking area, P7, located under the terminal,
is reserved for frequent flyers.
